| Gustav Stickley Dining Side Chairs #1297
Inventory number A-1033 $4,500.00 This listing is for a set of ten (10) Gustav Stickley side chairs, model #1297. They are not marked but are shown on pg 113 of "The Early Works of Gustav Stickley". Last January a set of 6 with rush seats sold at Rago's for $7,320, including buyers premium). They can be seen on Rago's site at: http://www.ragoarts.com/results/?p=search&x=0&y=0&q=stickley+1297&s=rago The seats are webbed and padded on wood frames covered in a dark brown vinyl. I am selling the entire lot of 10 chairs. I would consider selling them in a set of 4 at $2,000 and a set of 6 at $2,850. I don't believe they have ever been "stripped and refinished" but they have been touched up at some time. I am cleaning them, touching up worn areas and giving them a coat of clear wax. They were dirty from years of storage but do not smell. We've cleaned all ten and given them a fresh coat of wax. Shown to the right are two from all four sides. All ten are shown below in a group of 6 and a group of 4. The two at the right are in the group of 4. These are 10 identical chairs measuring 37" tall, 17-3/4" wide across the front and 17" across the back. They are 16" deep at the seat, with a seat height of 19". The top back rung is 3-1/2" wide with a very slight curve downward. The remaining 3 rungs are 2-1/4" wide. The two wide stretchers below the seat in front and back are 4" wide. The side stretchers are 1-3/4" wide. Being that these chairs are most likely over 100 years old, probably around 1904 to 1906, they do have their fair share of wear, nicks and scuffs but they are all tight. No rocking or loose joints. The top back rung is double pinned, and the remaining 3 back rungs are single pinned. Both side stretchers and the wide front and back stretcher are also pinned. The four seat rails are not pinned. Sets of 10 are very, very hard to come by so if this is what you are looking for don't hesitate. They won't last long at this price. Price may be negotiable depending on conditions of payment. Seats can be reupholstered if you like in either leather or fabric. Call me for details and pricing. I can be reached at 866-MISSION from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. My name is Wynn. I prefer cash but lets be reasonable, who carries this amount around with them. I accept Pay Pal, Visa, Master Card and Discover. Payment must be completed and verified prior to pickup/delivery. Checks must clear first unless paid with a certified bank check, even then I will take it to my bank for authentification (that's not even a word, but you know what I mean) before being deposited. DON"T even suggest a wire transfer.
The photo above was taken after cleaning but before they were waxed.

There are no loose joints on any of the chairs.
You can see the double pinned joint between the back leg and the top rail.
Note the ached side seat rail. |
